Anxiety, Fears, Panic & Phobias

Hypnotherapy is especially effective as a treatment for anxiety, fears, phobias and panic attacks.

Whilst these conditions are distinctive there is much overlapping of thoughts, feelings and behaviours.  These are the conditions that Pauline treats most often in her practice.  With 20 years experience she has dealt with most types of phobias and fears.

Pauline has made a special study of treating anxiety.  She has undertaken research for a dissertation on approaches to treating and desensitising fears anxieties and phobias.  This research is available to hypnotherapists and psychotherapists through the National Register for Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy.  Pauline has also given talks for other therapists on these issues.

The symptoms of anxiety disorders are experienced as a result of the human body preparing to escape or fight due to some perceived danger.  This is called the flight or fight response.  Symptoms noticed may include the heart rate increasing, tense muscles, difficulty breathing.

Therapy for these problems involves discovering and dealing with the root cause of the problem.  It also includes changing automatic thoughts using cognitive behavioural hypnotherapy.

PHOBIAS

The object of the irrational fear can be almost anything but the most usual are needles, insects, animals, enclosed or open spaces.  Some people have social phobias.  This is extreme shyness and lack of confidence with people.
